Trusted, Confidential, Personalized, and Effective
Are you struggling with issues related to trauma, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or major life changes? There comes a time when we need some help from a certified professional to help cope with many of life’s challenges. I’m Ginger Poag, a Licensed Master's level clinician, and certified EMDR therapist in the greater Nashville area, and I’d love to help you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery.
A Licensed, Experienced Professional Here to Guide You
My name is Ginger Poag, MSW, LCSW, CEMDR, SEP. I am a licensed clinical psychotherapist and trauma counselor with over twenty-five years experience in the mental health and addiction fields. In addition to my private practice, I have also worked for several world-renowned treatment facilities across the U.S. as a trauma therapist and counselor. My areas of expertise include the treatment of trauma victims, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse survivors, individuals with PTSD, and anxiety disorders.
I am a published author, having written for both the professional field as well as the academic field; my work has been incorporated into the Social Work curriculum of several universities, both within the United States, and internationally. I have had the honor and distinction of helping individuals and families in the immediate aftermath of numerous mass shootings. I have treated survivors of terrorist attacks, both on a domestic as well as on an international level. I am also one of only approximately 4,000 clinicians worldwide currently certified in EMDR therapy.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Arizona State University, and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University. I am also a lifetime member of Psi Chi, a nationally-recognized honor society for psychology.
I genuinely enjoy helping people, and have both the tools and the experience to help guide you through the healing process. You'll find a few of these methods described below.
EMDR and Somatic Experiencing®
Most people have events in their past they look back upon, and perhaps try to forget. You may have also been been diagnosed with PTSD, or otherwise know for certain that you have had a traumatic past. In both cases, it’s perfectly normal to want to question and examine upsetting events that have occurred in your life. It’s also completely normal to feel that these same events, while upsetting, may not rise to the level of "trauma". Regardless of the degree or severity of your issues, past or present, trauma therapy can be enormously beneficial.
While there are many ways to treat trauma, the two therapies I use most commonly are EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Somatic Experiencing® Therapy. In my experience, these two therapy approaches have yielded the best results, and have the advantage of being able to be used either separately, or in combination with each other.
Typically, my clients visit me in-person at my office, which is located in Brentwood, TN. Depending upon your particular needs and personal schedule, your therapy visits can either be in-person, by phone, or provided remotely using a secure teleconference. You can read more about these options below.
Taking the first step towards recovery can often be the most difficult part of the process. For most individuals, there is a deep sense of relief once they eventually do take that step.
In every instance, my clients and I work together to find the pace that they are most comfortable with. With that in mind, I encourage you to call, or email to schedule an appointment with me, so we can further discuss how trauma therapy can help you be your best.
REMOTE THERAPY SESSIONS
A Happier, Healthier You
Pressed for time and can't get into the office? Remote therapy sessions may be the best option for you. These sessions can be conducted by phone, or via the Internet using a highly secured, private network connection. Let's work together and discuss options that may fit into your schedule.
In your therapy sessions, we’ll work to solve current problems and change unhelpful thinking and behavior. I will help you “re-frame” your thinking and provide you with valuable tools to cope with life’s challenges. My office is conveniently located near I-65 and Moores Lane in Brentwood, TN. You’ll leave my personalized Individual Therapy sessions feeling better than ever before. Contact me today to see how I can help!
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR Therapy is one of many leading-edge therapies I currently offer for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Trauma. The results I have personally witnessed with this therapy are often miraculous. What makes EMDR therapy different than traditional talk therapy is that with EMDR, the natural power of your own mind is harnessed and guided to bring about self-healing.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
To ensure the greatest possible outcome for my clients, I do not accept insurance because I believe the client and therapist should determine the course of treatment, not the insurance company. However, as needed, I can provide you with a "super bill" to submit to your insurance company.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
My office is located close to Nashville, in a convenient Brentwood location, near I-65 and Moores Lane.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
While session times are typically 50 minutes, many people who receive EMDR tend to prefer 90 or 120 minute sessions. It's all up to you.
WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?
My fee is $180 for a 50 minute session.
